![]() ![]() The anime adaptation of No Longer Human, along with many of the other adaptations of Japanese literature in Aoi Bungaku is one of the most faithful and yet simultaneously unfaithful adaptations I have seen. In 2009, the anime Aoi Bungaku, or “Blue Literature,” chose one of Dazai’s most famous novels, No Longer Human, a semi-autobiographical, as the first arc of a series of anime adaptations. However, Dazai’s writings seem vastly different, as his most prominent works were of a much darker breed than the ubiquitous Soseki and aesthetic Tanizaki. Osamu Dazai is perhaps one of the most well-known literary figures in all of Japan, right alongside the great Natsume Soseki and Junichiro Tanizaki. It will seek to find interesting points of comparison and provide context for the works that are being adapted. ![]() This is an ongoing series that will explore the anime adaptations of famous Japanese literature.
